Rules are meant to be broken…aren’t they?

There are so many rules for everything in life, some useful : Look left and right before crossing the road, Don’t eat a meal after 7pm, sit with your legs closed, wash dark colours separately. There also seem to be rules regarding jewellery wear but are these rules really needed? See what you think:

• Wear large statement rings on your longer fingers, so your middle, index and ring fingers only.

So this would mean that our thumbs and pinky fingers can’t get in on the statement ring fun… sad times. But could there be reason to this ‘madness’?

• Don’t wear two large pendants together, have one big and the other small enough to compliment the other.

Errr can I just say, if you are African or LOVE your gems you are bound to have broken this ‘rule’ and should this rule even exist?

• Avoid matching

Now this is a rule that would have most aunts and mums gasping in utter shock! I have realised that many members of the ‘younger’ generation prefer to wear mismatched jewellery sets, preferring for example to wear a statement pair of earrings instead of a necklace and earring set, but don’t matching sets have a place in our jewellery boxes?

•  Don’t wear chunky bracelets with large watches.

I think it depends on how chunky the bracelet is and how thick your wrist really is. What do you think? But yes, unless you are blessed with ‘man-sized’ wrists then perhaps this rule applies.

• When at work don’t wear expensive looking jewellery.

If you have worked in a Nigerian office then you are bound to have met at least one ‘madam’ who wears her gold set to work. Do you think she’s listening to this rule… I didn’t think so either. I mean how else will you know her status?
